Returning to Campbell River and Sointula, Tentacle Tribe transcends the boundaries between street and contemporary dance with a striking piece - ‘DIRT’ - for five virtuoso performers.
Through its raw expression, this creation is a critique of humanity’s conquering relationship with the planet. The quintet mixes puppets and movements in an unusual conceptual hip-hop. Choreographed by Elon Höglund, ‘DIRT’ is a profound meditation on our ancestral connection with the Earth.
Artichaut Mag, Mathilde Côté: “This breathtaking performance, blending street and contemporary dance, is a cry from the heart — a breath of (dis)hope nestled in the cracks of a crumbling world.”
La Presse, Iris Gagnon-Paradis: “Dirt, the new creation by Tentacle Tribe, is a work brimming with ingenious ideas and a particularly refined aesthetic.”
“…he (Höglund) thus succeeds in creating something that feels truly new, exciting, and above all, meaningful”
Tentacle Tribe is a Montreal-based dance company co-founded in 2012 by Canadian dancer Emmanuelle Lê Phan and Swedish dancer Elon Höglund. Approaching choreography through a wide variety of movement philosophies, Tentacle Tribe concocts uncommon dance works with a contemporary approach.
The company is internationally renowned for its unique style of "conceptual hip-hop," blending b-boying, b-girling, and street dance with contemporary flow. Tentacle Tribe has toured nationally and globally across contemporary and street dance festivals and presentations. www.tentacletribe.com/the-company
