Premiere of new work with Community Engagement .
The opportunity to undergo a residency with BC Movement ArtsSociety is a truly invaluable. As a young artist, I am in constant search of spaces and opportunities to develop our artistic voices and interests. It is truly special to be seen and trusted by the organization to continue this deepening of my personal, artistic exploration. To be choreographing in Sointula’s landscape is a privilege in a time of culminating inspiration for movement. The creation, Landlocked, will be a reaction to the liberating setting in contrast to the isolated state of personal isolation that stockpiles when faced with tension coming from all sides.
Canadian Permanent Resident, Dante Gonzalez, was born in Jacksonville, Florida where he began dancing at a young age. In 2017, he moved to Toronto, Canada to further his artistic development attending Canada’s National Ballet School. In this period, he had his first encounters with choreographing while refining his classical ballet and contemporary movement vocabulary. Upon graduating, Dante moved to Vancouver to continue his artistic pursuits with Arts Umbrella’s Post SecondaryProgram. It was here that he discovered an array of repertoire from choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, Rebecca Margolick, PeggyBaker, Ella Rothschild, Ethan Colangelo and Fernando Hernando Magadan. The exposure to such a variety of dance practices and voices led Dante to work withJohan Inger’s Takeoff Dance Project, Sharon Eyal’s SED Creation Workshop, Nederlands Dance Theater’s Summer Intensive and The School at Jacob’s Pillow. In 2025 he danced with AuTour Dance Company and has taken up choreographic commissions with Vancouver based composers and videographers in pursuit of following his collaborative instincts. Dante will join ICK Dans Amsterdam forthe company's 2025/2026 season.
